The Chinese are more likely to shop online thanconsumers from any other country, according to the latest survey by theInternational Post Corporation, a Brussels-headquartered association on postalservices.
In the second annual study of 24,000 respondents in 26 markets across NorthAmerica, the Asia-Pacific and Europe, the IPC found that 36 percent of Chinesebuy from digital sites at least once a week, a frequency far outstripping peerbuyers.
China is also the most popular market for consumers around the world to shopfrom, accounting for 26 percent of most recent cross-border purchases, followedby the United States with 16 percent, Germany’s 15 percent and the UnitedKingdom’s 15 percent.

The survey also indicated that clear information about delivery charges, freereturns and free delivery over a particular value, were the most importantdrivers for cross-border online shoppers.
It found that consumers were more likely to pay a premium for tracking ratherthan for speed of delivery. They preferred to pay for delivery of a tracked itemthat took five to eight days for delivery than an untracked item that took threeto four days.
About 70 percent of cross-border online shoppers were offered tracking and 88percent used it, mostly in the interim stage, to check on delivery progress.
Almost three-quarters of shoppers used the post for their most recentcross-border purchases. Overall, 87 percent were satisfied with their deliveryexperience. Only 6 percent returned their cross-border purchase, mostly usingthe post for the return.

Handwriting is quickly becoming a dying art. Few businesses can run nowadayswithout computers, giving keyboard shortcuts an unprecedented importance.Elementary and high schools across the country now view typing courses asessential to their curricula. But what are we losing as handwriting loses itssignificance in society?
Brain power, according to science. Researchers from Princeton University andthe University of California, Los Angeles conducted a series of studies todemonstrate the differences between students who wrote out their notes and thosewho typed notes. Participants took notes on a lecture using one of the twomethods and were tested on the material 30 minutes after the lecture and again aweek later. The results showed that both types of notetakers did well on thefirst test, though longhand notetakers had a stronger grasp of the overallconcept, but students with handwritten notes were able to remember and stillunderstand the concepts of the lecture after a week had passed. Theseparticipants were also more open to understanding new ideas.
At the University of Nebraska, educational psychologist Kenneth Kiewra held asimilar study, where some students were tested immediately following aPowerPoint lecture and others had a chance to review their notes before beingtested. Those who took notes on a laptop had a slight advantage on the testright after the lecture, but students with written notes performed significantlybetter when given the chance to review. Kiewra told the Wall Street Journal thatthe reason is likely because written notes are briefer, more organized, andbetter captured information from graphs and charts than typednotes.$来&源:ziyuanku.com
Computers aren’t going away anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean papernotebooks need to become obsolete(过时). In fact, it’s best to start using them atan early age. University of Indiana researchers compared brain scans of fiveyear olds, some of whom practiced printing letters and some who just looked atthe letters. Those who wrote out the letters had more enhanced and “adult-like”neural activity.
Take this as a parenting hack for the digital era: Don’t let your kids gocompletely digital.
59. It can be inferred from the second paragraph that ________.
A. Not both types of notetakers did well on the material test 30 minutesafter the lecture.
B. Students who typed notes could h***e a better understanding of thematerial.
C. Students who wrote notes out could only remember the lecture in aweek.
D. It’s easy for both types of notetakers to welcome new ideas.
60. Why students with written notes performed much better when given thechance to review according to Kiewar?
A. Because they are born adapting themselves to new ideas easily.
B. Because they h***e a higher level of intelligence than those with typednotes.
C. Because the written notes are much more convenient and accessible.
D. Because the typed notes are always without any references.
61. The passage mainly provides suggestions for ________.

Smog in Europe and North America could be more than 25 times more deadly thanthe ***erage air pollution found in Chinese cities, a new study suggests. In thelargest ever study of its kind in the developing world, researchers tested theeffects of air pollution on the health of people in 272 cities in China.
They found ***erage annual exposure to fine particles, known as PM2.5, inthose cities was more than five times higher than the level recommended by theWorld Health Organization (WHO), according to a paper in the American Journal ofRespiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
However they also discovered that it was much less likely to increase thedeath rate than PM2.5 in Europe and North America.
The researchers, led by Dr Maigeng Zhou, of the Chinese Centre for DiseaseControl and Prevention, suggested this was because China is affected by largeamounts of natural dust blown by the wind from arid areas, while most pollutionin the West comes from industry.
They found that for every increase of 10 micrograms of air pollution in acubic meter of air, the mortality rate increased by 0.22 percent, discountingdeaths from accidents.
Professor Frank Kelly, an expert in environmental health at King’s CollegeLondon, who was not involved in the study but has studied air pollution inChina, told The Independent: “Those relative risks are considerably less thanthose seen in Europe and the US. For mortality(死亡率)in Europe we are working on asix percent increase per 10 micrograms.” That suggests air pollution in Europeis about 27 times more toxic than ***erage air pollution in China.
However, Professor Kelly said cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kongwere likely to suffer from Western-style air pollution. "The natural dustcomponent there is not of the magnitude that it would dwarf the coal, biomassand fossil fuel signals,” he said, “That may be true in certain cities whosepollution is not dominated by local power generation or major trafficcongestion.”
Natural dust particles can cause physical damage tothe lungs and trigger an asthma attack. Particles of carbon produced when fossilfuels are burned can lead to similar problems but they are also coated withtoxic he***y metals, chemicals and volatile organic compounds. These are able topass from the lungs into the blood stream where it is thought they cause furtherdamage to the body.
Areeba Hamid, an air pollution campaigner with environmental groupGreenpeace, said: “Poisonous air causes damage to people’s health wherever inthe world they live. We now know fumes from diesel(柴油机) vehicles are a lot morepoisonous than car companies claimed and this is a big cause of air pollution inEurope and North America. These companies h***e a lot to answer for, but so farthey’ve managed to ***oid any real accountability.”Ziyuanku.com
The study of cities in China found the ***erage annual expose to PM2.5 was 56micrograms per cubic meter, compared to the WHO guideline limit for safe airquality of 10 micrograms.
People who were older than 75, had less education orwho lived in hotter places were more likely to die. It is thought people inwarmer cities were more likely to spend time outside or le***e their windowsopen, thereby breathing more polluted air, the researchers said. They alsospeculated that less well educated people might h***e poorer access to healthcare or experience poorer environmental health conditions.
62. Why PM2.5 in China is less deadly than that in Europe and NorthAmerica?
A. China is free from any pollution about PM2.5.Ziyuanku.com

A. The technology doesn’t meet the standards.
B. The environmental agencies can’t take on responsibilities.

D. Car companies can’t evaluate the results.
65. The author’s purpose of writing the passage is to ________.

RED lanterns adorn(点缀) the aisles of a small supermarket. There are stacks ofred envelopes on sale, for stuffing cash in and handing out as gifts. A signoffers seasonal discounts. Such festive trappings are quite common in China inthe build-up to the lunar New Year, which this year starts on January 28th. Internationalbrands are trying to lure these big spenders with chicken-themed items.
Conscious of China’s growing economic and political clout, foreign leadersh***e taken to noting the occasion. Britain’s Prime Minister, Theresa May, hasgiven a video address, a tradition started in 2014 by her predecessor, D***idCameron. Last year the country’s royal family tweeted a picture of QueenElizabeth dotting the eye of a Chinese lion-dancer’s costume. Also in 2016,Venezuela’s culture minister admitted that his country was celebrating Chinesenew year for the first time—with six weeks of festivities—in a bid to improveeconomic ties with China. It is rumored that this year’s World Economic Forum inD***os was held a week earlier than usual to ***oid clashing with Chinese NewYear.
China also sponsors related events, such as a display this year of martialarts in Cyprus and a traditional Chinese temple-fair in Harare, Zimbabwe. It maygive Chinese officials satisfaction to see foreigners enjoy such festivities. They lament the growing enthusiasm among Chinese for Western celebrations suchas Christmas—in December cities across China are bedecked with Santas andsnowflake decorations. Chinese New Year is a welcome chance to reverse thecultural flow.

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填上一个最恰当的词。
We often close ourselves off when unfortunate events happen in our lives;instead of letting the world soften us, we let it drive us deeper intoourselves. We try to deflect the hurt and pain by pretending it doesn’t exist, but although we can try this all we want, in the end, we can’t hide fromourselves. We need to learn to open our hearts
to the potentials of life and let the world soften us.
Whenever we start to let our fears and seriousness get the best of us, weshould take a step back and re-evaluate our beh***ior. The items listed below areways you can open your heart more fully and completely.
Breathe into pain
Whenever a painful situation arises in your life, try to embrace it insteadof running away or trying to mask the hurt. When the sadness strikes, take adeep breath and lean into it. When we run away from sadness that’s unfolding inour lives, it gets stronger and more real. We take an emotion that’s fleetingand make it a solid event, instead of something that passes through us.
By utilizing our breath we soften our experiences. If we dam them up, ourlives will stagnate, but when we keep them flowing, we allow more newness andgreater experiences to blossom.
Embrace the uncomfortable
We all know what that twinge(刺痛) of anxiety feels like. We know how fearfeels in our bodies: the tension in our necks, the tightness in our stomachs, etc. We can practice leaning into these feelings of discomfort and let them showus where we need to go.
The initial impulse is to run away — to try and suppress these feelings bynot acknowledging them. When we do this, we close ourselves off to the parts ofour lives that we need to experience most. The next time you h***e this feelingof being truly uncomfortable, do yourself a f***or and lean into the feeling. Actin spite of the fear.
Ask your heart what it wants
We’re often confused at the next step to take, making pros and cons listsuntil our eyes bleed and our brains are sore. Instead of always taking thisapproach, what if we engaged a new part of ourselves that isn’t usually involvedin the decision making process?
I know we’ve all felt decisions or actions that we had to take simply due toour “gut” impulses: when asked, we can’t explain the reasons behind doing so —just a deep knowing that it had to get done. This instinct is the part ofourselves we’re approaching for answers.
To start this process, take few deep breaths then ask, “Heart, what decisionshould I make here? What action feels the most right?”
See what comes up, then engage and evaluate the outcome.
